Motorsport and High Performance Engineering
Northamptonshire has a world-class cluster of motorsports engineering companies and racing venues.
Across the county, major motorsports companies turnover in excess of £0.6 billion and employ 6,000 people. Meanwhile, our 650 High Performance Engineering companies employ over 10,400 and include names such as Cosworth, Ilmor Engineering, Mahle Powertrain and Mercedes-Benz.
The county has a significant share of the international motorsport supply chain with many companies specialising in composites and precision engineering.
Our motorsports venues are globally renowned. As well as premier drag racing strip Santa Pod and the UK’s only oval motorsport circuit, Rockingham, Northamptonshire is home to Silverstone. The UK’s only Grade 1 motorsports circuit, Silverstone is the venue for the largest number of international and national motorsport events in the county, including the F1 World Championship Grand Prix.
Other companies within this sector operating out of Northamptonshire include F1 constructors Honda and Force India, Porsche, specialist electronics design experts Radstone Technology and Variohm, and Fairline who produce high performance luxury yachts.
