Virani Food Products Limited supplies food ingredients to the industry serving a significant proportion of the food sector. The company started in 1973 from premises in the centre of Wellingborough. A second site was acquired in 1976 and in 1979 the company transfered operations to purpose built premises on one of the town's developing industrial estates.
Northamptonshire provided a central location from which to distribute to the company's main domestic clientele as well as to export.
Although the company's customer base has changed following a restructuring in 1993, Northamptonshire remains an excellent transport hub. Also, given that the majority of raw materials arrive via Felixstowe or Thamesport, the company's supply chain logistics benefit from the A14.
The local food cluster is also of value to Virani in ensuring a ready infrastructure of specialisms to serve the sector: skilled staff, food transporters, testing laboratories, hygiene services. The Wellingborough site integrates a range of spice processing technologies under one roof and is accredited to European standards.
