West Northamptonshire Development Corporation
West Northamptonshire Development Corporation (WNDC) is the only urban development corporation outside the Thames Gateway.
A statutory local delivery vehicle with development control, compulsory purchase, grant awarding and service providing powers. WNDC's remit is to deliver infrastructure and co-ordinate regeneration and development in West Northamptonshire, a key component of the Milton Keynes South Midlands growth area.
Working with public and private sector partners WNDC will assist in providing new homes for around 125,000 by 2021, 37,000 new high skilled jobs and revitalised town centres in Northampton, Daventry and Towcester.
WNDC became the strategic development control authority within its three urban development areas in April 2006. It is responsible for all applications in excess of 50 homes or 1 hectare, and for all applications for new development and change of use within the centre of Northampton.
The Deaprtment for Communities and Local Government has allocated £25 million of growth area funding to WNDC to pump prime infrastructure and regeneration into the area. Projects supported in this initial phase aim to create sustainable communities - places that are well designed, have good transoprt links, essential health, education, social and leisure facilities, and that respect the environment.
